![]() The exchanges between Semple and Kapoor reignited a longstanding debate of whether someone can exclusively “own” a color. Surrey NanoSystems’s decision to grant exclusive rights to the artistic use of Vantablack to Kapoor was openly condemned by many other artists like Stuart Semple, who wished to use the Vantablack in their own works or believe that colors should be freely accessible to all artists. So you will have to choose between getting your hands dirty in the hopes of some progress, or clean hands and letting the trolley rampage out of control.Semple’s efforts to ban Kapoor from accessing his pigments reflect his continued displeasure with Kapoor’s own monopoly of a color: Kapoor is the only artist allowed to use “ Vantablack,” a material developed by British company Surrey NanoSystems and purportedly the darkest material in existence. But when voting day comes, there might not be one. ![]() The trolley problem is does taking steps to mitigate harm mean you are therefore responsible for the harm that has occurred as a result of your choices? Do you allow more suffering to happen because you are scared to be tainted by your association with *some* suffering? Or, if you make the choice to abstain from participation, are you then responsible for the harm that occurs because of your choice not to act? The trolley problem is about reacting to the situation AS IT IS. It's not even "should we take steps to prevent the kinds of people who would tie people to train tracks from having access to those train tracks" The trolley problem is not "why couldn't they have given us a better track" You are still missing the point of the trolley problem, just like OP was saying people do. People who refuse to vote because "they're both bad" may be taking the high ground, but there are still people on the tracks. If this is the case, then doing nothing would be considered an immoral act.' 'Under some interpretations of moral obligation, simply being present in this situation and being able to influence its outcome constitutes an obligation to participate. Their refusal to engage with the trolley problem has made them ignorant not only of how their position IS one of the sides they refuse to take, but also that the other option recognises their desire for moral purity at the expense of obligation, for what it is '.since moral wrongs are already in place in the situation, moving to another track constitutes a participation in the moral wrong, making one partially responsible.' ![]() "Engaging with the lever in any way makes me culpable for the death that occurs" seems to be the rationale behind most of the voting naysayers, so, and I am quoting wikipedia here, their rational is quite literally one of the positions of the trolley problem there's lady photon and manpower too, and of course they're both in new wave. ![]() the question of what he's going to rename himself to if he ever makes it to adulthood. the extremely brutal and un-fun shit the wards are getting into and 2. (especially with how extremely relevant that hole ends up being, like a million chapters later.) kid win isn't on this list technically but is Spiritually, that's a very "comic book kid hero who's never going to age and will carry his snappy kid-flash esque name thru the decades" vibe going on. ![]() there's professor haywire as one of my favorite ever brief mention capes if not my absolute favorite-having this piece of "oh yeah, that time professor haywire tore a hole between dimensions" background worldbuilding that sounds like it's straight out of a 50s-era comic strip but is dropped so casually is just delightful. there's also number man but he feels like a less obvious commentary. with both 'glory girl' and 'armsmaster' trying to really play up a classic heroic cape presentation for PR (& having powers that fit in as well-armsmaster is, like, generic Power Of Technology guy but with actual superhuman powers, glory girl is a generic supergirl analogue with some twists regarding vulnerability). This is actually kind of an interesting reddit post in terms of how it prompts highlighting where worm is already commenting on comic book names, i.e. ![]()
